...before it's all forgotten!!!

Hi there. Welcome to our squeaky clean, new smelling blog. Starting a blog such as this one is a funny thing, because after deciding to make a "keep up with us" type blog, I tried to figure out where I should start. It seems our life is full of change and craziness, so I thought I'd use this first entry to get you up to speed on who we are and where we've come from.

Laura, me, is a lovely young lady with poofy brown hair and very trendy coke-bottle glasses. (I'm sure they're trendy to someone...) I grew up in the lower mainland and except for a stint overseas, have lived in the lower mainland all my life.

Ryan, my husband, is a dashing young man with blond hair and blue eyes (a true dutch hottie). He moved around BC quite a bit as a kid before settling in the lower mainland with his family.

We met at a summer camp that we were both working for. It didn't take long, as one might expect at camp, to hook up and call it a day. We got married 2 years later and that's when the real fun began.

3 weeks after our wedding, we flew off to Japan to teach English. A GREAT time, and challenging. What a crazy way to start out a marriage!

We got back and started the roller coaster of moving and settling and moving and settling that has only just finished.....3 days ago!!! We've lived in 5 different cities in the past 2 and a half years! This is it, I tell you. We can't take any more of the laughs about the "next move"!! We're now close to Ryan's work which is really nice, especially because we have a new addition to our family...!

Our baby (let's call her "Plava") was born on this past summer! She was 8'11 and 23 cms long. A good size!! She took 3 days to come out, thanks to her mom getting impatient and taking the advice of some well-meaning family members who assured her that drinking castor oil was a surefire way to have that baby quickly.

Sigh... 3 days.

Anyway, she's here and is such a peach!!! She's a sweet tempered baby, and really laid back. We keep asking each other if she could be "slow" at developing because she's just so relaxed, but no. She's right on track. She's just, well, calmer than a lot of other kids we see. We can hardly complain!!! She's happy as pie and has a really great belly laugh that's been coming out in recent weeks. Shuks, I love that kid!

Plava's 5 and a half months now and is learning new things all the time. She's just started eating solids and can't get enough of them. After a couple weeks of her grabbing our food and staring at our forks going into our mouths, we gave in. And she's starting to pack on the pounds!!!

Life at home, it's been different. People ask me if I like it or if it's hard, and I have difficulty answering because it's a bit of both. It's great not having to get up to go to work in the morning, and the idea of leaving her in the morning is pretty awful, but it can be really quiet, and sometimes lonely, when it's just me and her all day. I also feel like I'm going stir crazy sometimes too, and I think she gets that way as well. I have to try and get out more with her. That always makes me feel fresh and relieved.

Well, I promise to be a good blogger and update this periodically. Thanks for reading. Off I go...
