a new start....a new beef?

I did it! Whew! That was a long haul....a month and a half of no computer (except the occasional "need" - looking up an address, etc). Again, I'm reminded of my attachment to the thing - HOW I LONGED TO SIT DOWN AND SOAK UP THE GLOW OF THE SCREEN, FEEL MY FINGERS TAPPING THE LITTLE SQUARE KEYS, GLIDE THE MOUSE BACK AND FORTH ON IT'S SMOOTH PAD..... But I resisted - mostly by avoiding the computer room altogether.

Plava is growing and growing, as you might assume a baby would do. She's now 8 1/2 months old. Woo hoo! It makes me proud to know that she's almost been out in the world as long as she was roasting in the belly. And on another hand, it makes me feel a little rotten. You who have been pregnant before may know the "9 months on, 9 months off" expression - meaning you gain for nine months and you should expect it to take another 9 for the pounds to come off. Well, I've got 2 weeks to go and, uh, I'm not even close. I've been okay with that. I plan to get rid of the excess over the next while (of course), I would think to myself. I'm pretty happy with my bod, and I hate the idea of being obsessed with how heavy or light I look.

However, something happened the other day that kickstarted my motivation to shed some of the marshmallow layer immediately. Ryan and I were sitting down in the living room with our financial advisor, chatting about this plan and that, and having coffee. Plava was sitting on the couch between us, playing with some toys and doing pretty well keeping herself busy. My coffee was poured and needed some cream and sugar, so I bent forward to do it, when I suddenly felt a slobbery little mouth on my lower back. I turned around to find Plava, bent right over, trying to nurse from my love handle. Yes, those dear pockets of love and been exposed as I had leaned forward and she had thought that they looked big and full of milk.

It was a bit of a wake up call, to say the least. And definitely worth a good laugh, and then another one. So I've started to trim down my meals and get out for some exercise. It's high time I got to it, and it actually feels really good. Here goes nothing!

Ah...Plava! YAY! You're back! I don't know why, but I swear I checked your blog every day to see if maybe you had snuck one in here or there. Congrats on making it. If you had the willpower to do that, you will certainly succeed at your decision to get more exercise! Good luck. By the way, Kev and I really miss you guys!
