boxed up

The other night, Ryan and I went out with his family and had a nice dinner together - kidless.

We spent a lovely evening dining at Horizons Restaurant on Burnaby Mountain. Beautiful view!!

On our way there, we dropped Plava off at my parents' house for babysitting, leaving them with instructions on how to do her bedtime routine. She's been so good for the past month. I mean, we've left the world of "WILL OUR BABY EVER GO TO SLEEP LIKE A NORMAL HUMAN BEING AND STAY ASLEEP ALL NIGHT???" and entered the rosy world of, "What were we complaining about? It's so easy. We just walk in, read her a couple books, put her in her crib, put a blanket on her, and walk out. Easy as pie."

Yes, she's made the transformation, thank God!!!

So off we went to dinner, knowing that this night would be the test as to whether she'd go to sleep as well with other people, in another house, as she did at home.

Upon our return, we asked the question we had been wondering all night.

"How did she do?"

"Well, it's a funny story...." it started.

Oh no, what happened? We pictured her crying, wailing away in the playpen that served as her bed at Nana and Papa's, Little F, Uncle Gregg and Autie Teresa's house.

But that wasn't it.
She was wired, had been playing with Papa, which always gets her giggly and excited, and then bedtime had rolled around. She got a bath, but was still fairly excited. So my mom decided to take her in Little F's stroller for a walk around the park, just to calm her down. (For any of you parents-to-be, remember this tactic - it's WONDERFUL) It worked, and she promptly got her into the room she'd be sleeping in and read her some books. The only thing was, the playpen wasn't around anymore. It had been in the house on loan and had to be returned, so there was no bed for Plava.

Luckily for her, there was a big box.

Yes, we walked downstairs to collect her and take her home, and there in the room was a big, huge box on the floor. Were there puppies in it? Kittens? Guinea pigs? Nope, down at the bottom, with a blanket under and over top of her, was little Plava - FAST ASLEEP.

We muffled some laughter, the four of us, as we stood there looking at her. Then we scooped her up, and she groggily laid her head on my shoulder as I took her out to the waiting car.

I kicked myself for not having a photo of it.

The evening was wonderful, we were happy to have discovered that Plava would do as well going to bed with other people and at other houses than she did at home. HALLELUIA!!! We're in a good time with her now, a very very good time.

Hey, I think I've been to that restaurant on Burnaby Mountain a long time ago. The sunset shot is beautiful. Are the prices reasonable?

Well, if by "reasonable" you mean that a glass of wine might cost $11, then yes!! :D
