The reason for the sudden change of heart? Change of availability? Change of amount of time?
Ryan is home. Aaaah. Ryan is home.
Not only that, but Plava is sleeping. Yes, she's actually sleeping! In the daytime! Shock of all shocks!
Do I sound a little sarcastic?
Our little peanut has been trying her best to kiss her naps goodbye. I'm not totally sure what the reason for it is - wanting to exert her independence, not liking her bed, not wanting to miss out on any part of the day, being uncomfortable because of teething (yes, she's gotten one of her new 2-year molars and there are 3 more to come!)....but who knows, really? Isn't it always a mystery?
It had been six days without a nap. The kid was beside herself with exhaustion. By four in the afternoon she'd be crankier than a slug in salt. Whining and crying at the smallest thing, wanting her way to the utmost detail, and asking for oddly babyish things like "bottle time" or "mama's milk". Often she just wanted to snuggle on the couch with me and watch tv. Sweet, but not when a horrid squeal of a cry would emit upon hearing me say that I needed to make dinner.
So it had been a tiring week. I was trying my best to practice patience, be understanding yet very (very) firm with her tantrums, and talk her through things, but there's only so much patience a 9-month-pregnant woman can show, and most days I'd be irritable and cranky right along side her. It made for a sad flavour to our moment to moment relationship.
Yesterday, however, my mom decided to skip out on work and come hang out with us, particularly to take her for a walk at naptime so that I could get a little shuteye in myself (something I've been needing badly!!). It was wonderful. I snoozed on the couch and after about an hour they returned, Plava out cold in her stroller. Did we try and move her? No way. "The transfer" has been a failure since the onset of this new phase, and so there she slept in her stroller at the bottom of the stairs by the garage door.
This lasted a while, but when she wanted to change positions she awoke with a cranky cry which told me she would be done with her nap. Not so!! I picked her up and carried her up to the living room where I had been writing Christmas cards. I plunked her down on the couch and voila!!!
She slept for another hour and a half right there, in all her cold winter gear and cuteness.
And now? The next day? Somehow we managed to convince her to have a nap again! I don't know how, but she's sleeping right now in her bed. I'm amazed. Maybe it has something to do with Ryan being here - he's been known to have some magical powers before...perhaps this is the beginning of the end of the no-nap phase! Hah. Let's not get ahead of ourselves now.
Anyway, enough about child number one, how about little Pito? Well, actually, today is my due date, or should I say her due date? Either way, this is November 24th, the day that she is due to....to....think about coming out? I'm not feeling anything. Nothing. Nada. Well, I've had some slightly painful contractions, but nothing more than I've had over the past 3 weeks or so. But who knows? Maybe tonight after Plava's asleep my water will break and BAM!
I sure hope it happens soon, but with the way things seem at this moment now, it could be another week. Plava, after all, was 9 days late by the time she decided to arrive. I DID go into labour on the 7th day overdue, but that's besides the fact. :)
The nice thing at this moment is that Ryan is done work. He had his last day on Friday and will be taking 6 weeks off. HEAVEN!! We're really looking forward to the baby coming now though, because if she doesn't come soon, he may feel a little weird about being off work just diddly-daddling away and waiting. But hey, so far it's been nice. Haha, it's only been one day.
So wish me luck! And wish me a short labour! And wish me a labour in the next couple days! I'm ready. Yes I am. I'm up for the challenge. I'm looking forward to it, in fact, as painful and horrid as it is. It's well worth what you get in the end, and knowing that this time has made all the difference.
Talk to y'all soon! Hopefully the next post is the one where we introduce our new daughter to you!!!

I love it when kids sleep! And here's to a quick, pain free (or pain reduced) labour!
He's not diddly daddling...he's spending needed time with his wife and daughter before the chaos begins! No news yet??? We're waiting!
