quack

Yesterday was a great, super awesome day. It was loaded with sun, bursting with laughter and music, jumping for joy, and a whole sack of other good things. We spent the morning and some of the afternoon at "FunFest", a free family event that our church puts on for the community. There's cheap food, live music (my sister Anna, actually), bouncy castles, a toddler play-zone, a fire truck, a school bus to play on, kids' games with prizes, face painting, bubble blowing, watermelon eating contests, draws for prizes, and the list goes on.

We were there bright and early to help set up and worked all morning until it started. It was a blast! Watermelon had been donated by a local store and it flowed freely, Plava being quite a substantial partaker. People started showing up around 11, and as the music started it looked like it was going to be a great day. The sun was shining, kids were running around from game to game to bouncy castle to the watermelon, and people were having fun!

What made it even better was a whole handful of people we knew coming. Friends and family came out and it was great to just hang out, talk and eat while the festivities happened. I even joined in on a watermelon eating contest that I lost, Ahem. I thought I was doing great, with Pito in the sling even, but then realized once it was over that I really wasn't doing so well. Hah.

What a feeling to load food down your throat so fast. Left me feeling awfully burpy!! :)

I decided at one point to get my forehead painted. A little yellow ducky was the picture, and I even got one on Pito's head too, while she sat in the sling with me. Plava got a couple duckies on her arms (the first time she's EVER gotten anywhere near facepaint) and then ran off again having the great time she was having.

She was such a free spirit yesterday. Running here and there, loads of people she knew around, eating slice after slice of watermelon and getting as filthy as you can imagine! Yay for childhood! It was really wonderful catching glimpses of her flitting here and there enjoying herself to the MAX.

After quite a while, I realized that I had forgot to put sunscreen on myself. The kids had it on, thankfully, but I hadn't even put any on myself at all. Whoops! I should have put some on when I thought of it, right then, but I didn't, and I got myself a nice little burn. It's actually funny - it's a sling burn. One shoulder and an angled line across my chest. Oh, and my face.

Yes, my face with the ducky.

Yes, you guessed it. I have a duck sunburnt onto my forehead.

This is worse than when I was younger and went snowboarding after having sparingly rubbed spf 10 moisturizer on parts of my face. That time I had weird shapes. This time, it's a duck.

I guess it's worth it though, because yesterday was so much fun.

After FunFest we headed home and gave the girls short naps before having some dinner and heading to the beach with some friends while the sun lowered in the sky. Ice cream cones and sunset!!

Aaaaah. I'm happy summer is here!
