Well it's been a great summer. I realize that summer is still happening. In fact, outside, right now, it's really hot and is supposed to continue being hot for the rest of the week. The reason that I sound so "past-tense" about it, is that I'm geared up for the fall.
Obviously this is a huge fall for us. What? You ask why? But, don't you hang on my every word and have my entire life memorized? No? Shocking... Well, let me tell you that this fall holds three big events for us.
EVENT NUMBER ONE:
Plava is starting Kindergarten. That is HUGE for me, in case you hadn't gathered that. With the onset of most of the local schools changing from half-day to full-day Kindergarten this year, it was looking grim. We, not being interested in sticking her into full days after her only ever experiencing three half-days per week, considered a handful of different options. After debating back and forth and discussing options with a handful of parents we know, we had decided that we'd put her in a program in a nearby school district in which she would be attending school one day a week, have another day as the "school field trip day" and the rest would be done as a home-learner. After being set for that for quite a while, we had a sobering discussion one day about what our year was truly going to look like (with me being on call as a doula) and decided to change the plan. We registered her in the local (gulp) CHRISTIAN school. She, little Plava, is ecstatic that she gets a uniform and gets to go three whole days a week and even already knows one boy that will be in her class. Ryan and I, well, we're rather nervous about the whole thing, to be honest. We're taking it one year at a time man. One year at a time. Heck, I'm going to start by taking it one WEEK at a time. Sheesh!!
EVENT NUMBER TWO:
Pito is starting preschool. Although this is less of a huge deal, being that she is currently SUPER confident walking into that place with her big sister as they attend a daycamp there this week, and that she is generally a much more bold little personality (even though she's about a head shorter than all the rest of the kids! Aaaah, the little November baby will always be one of the youngest!) , it still remains a milestone for all of us. This means that both girls will be in school of some kind this year (UNFORTUNATELY not on the same days! Sheesh!), and that marks a new era for the family. (Hm, better have another one to balance things out! Haha!)
EVENT NUMBER THREE:
I am forging out and starting my Doula business. Yes, in fact, I'm taking clients already. It's very exciting, and I'm thankful that I get to start out attending births of a handful of women I know. But this means being on call. Hence the last-minute decision to NOT homeschool Plava in the fall. Homeschooling for the first time along with being on call sounds hectic. Yes.
SO, there we have it! Fall is on my mind! But I should really remember that there are still some good long weeks of summer left. We've gotten out of town a handful of times already and will be getting away once more before it all begins. To show you a little snapshot of our summer, here are some pictures. Happy last days of summer!!
