in order to avoid the obvious...

So yeah. Today was Plava's first day of Kindergarten. As you can imagine, if you know me at all, it is a bit of a monumental day. Not only for her of course, but for her mother. She's still there, actually, and since I have only just returned home from the torturous drop-off, I don't think I can quite put into words my current feelings. Not just yet, at least. I think I have to figure them out first. !!

So, to completely avoid the subject, I'll post some pictures of our recent spontaneous kitchen makeover!! And when I say "spontaneous", I truly mean it. We returned home from a good last summer getaway in Merritt last weekend and since it was a long weekend and we had an extra day to hang out before Ryan returned to work, we said, "Hey let's paint the kitchen like we've been talking about for the past year!" And so, the last of the mustard yellow colour that clothed the entire house when we first moved in, and which wasn't horrible, but which we wanted to see changed, is now covered up with a flashy new colour. I picked up the paint from the "oops" bin at Home Depot (meaning someone had the colour mixed and changed their mind), and so it was super cheap!! Now, while I LOVE the colour, over the course of painting, Ryan was starting to wonder whether the "oops" paint might be appropriately named. While it is very bright, I LOVE it!! Woo! We are going to have one bright kitchen throughout the winter, baby!!

Here are some pictures.

This is the kitchen before. Might I add that this yellow was slightly less offensive than the hue that was painted throughout the rest of the living space.

Another "before" picture.

Oooooo Aaaaaah!!! There's the new colour!! Kind of a robin's egg blue.

Another one, along with our tile samples leaning above the sink. This is a step we may keep for some time in the future, since we haven't priced it out at all yet. Just dreaming. :)

Next step: remove cabinets and paint them BRIGHT WHITE to cover up the somewhat artistic but truly not appreciated faux distressed look that were previously done on them.

First coat done, awaiting the second!!

Second coat done and doors rehung!! I have revisited my disdain for hanging cabinet doors, let me tell you.

Next step: bottom cabinets getting the same treatment. Likely to take a few more coats of paint this time....

Hopes for the future: add a window sill, new light fixtures, new backsplash, new wood countertop, new appliances? (Let's not get carried away now.)
