a feast of insight
So, I've started a book recently (this meaning that I am procrastinating finishing my doula-ish reading that comprises part of my certification requirements!!) that has gripped me beyond what I expected. It's called "The Highly Sensitive Child".

A woman I recently met and have gotten to know a little recommended it to me, and as soon as I heard the title I was sure I had heard it talked about before. She lent me the book and it sat for some months on my dresser waiting for me to be done with my other books (the list of 6!) that I was wanting to get through first. I picked it up on a whim one day in September and thought I'd take a peek. Let me just say, it had me at the intro. :)
It is riveting! Specifically because it is describing Plava so very well, and explaining exactly what I have thought intuitively about her all along.... I realize this sounds completely arrogant, like I had all the answers already, but let me explain WHY I somehow understood my sensitive little thing. It's because I, too, am what they call a "highly sensitive person". Now, if I continued on here, I might lose you. In fact, I may have you wondering what in the world I'm going on about already. So I won't. I'll only say that this book is so challenging and interesting and eye-opening and affirming for me. I recommend it to anyone who has a child that has certain sensitivities that they don't understand, or is often labelled "shy", or that has a hard time in new surroundings, around new people, etc. The original book written by this author (Elaine N Aron) is called "The Highly Sensitive Person" and it's now on my list of future reads.
Anyway, just thought I'd share. Highly recommend it!

That's awesome! It must be so exciting to see something and have all of your thoughts and ideas validated in that way. I'm not surprised that you already knew...you are very intuitive yourself!
