So here I am, sitting at the computer with a pounding headache, having spent far too much time on the computer today, having just gotten Plava to sleep for the night, having a craving for some dessert and tv, and instead, refusing to do anything but write an entry in my blog. Do I dare stay in this seat to write some nonsense to a mysterious audience out there that may or may not read this, never mind get a kick out of it?
Yes, I stay. Why? Because whether or not it's read I enjoy doing it. I enjoy sucking out the last living thoughts at the end of my day and pouring them onto a screen to be displayed for anyone in the whole world who can access a computer connected to the internet. Is that a crazy thought or what?
But I know that probably the whole world won't read this. In fact, apart from some family and friends, a couple people who I don't know who may be following along in my daily pondering, and the random googler who types in "da koch blog", I won't be entertaining many people at all with my thoughts. And that's okay with me.
I'm having a pretty good day. I've been slothful for most of it, but I got a couple things done that have been hanging over my head, one of which is going out for a run! I'm quite proud of myself, I must admit. I'm not much of a runner, but I aspire to be.
Two of my sisters have gone from nothing to being die hard runners in the past couple years, not to mention my mom who's taken it up too. Such inspiration. I got into it while I was in Japan. I'd go to a local gym which was usually quite quiet, so it was a little less intimidating than it may have been if it was packed. I saw the same people most of the time. The only person I remember, actually, was an old man, maybe in his 70's, who would be walking up a sweat on the treadmill. I think he was at that gym every day. I really started enjoying running in Japan. I had never ever run before that, except for in P.E. in school, and it was a really lofty goal for me to become comfortable with it, but I did pretty well. If it weren't for stopping when preparing for our move back to Canada, I may have continued on and been quite the marathoner by now!
Ryan and I DID do a triathlon though, and I'm always so proud to tell people that. I'VE done a triathlon!! It was a shorter one, of course, called "my first triathlon" and it was open to beginners only. I finished in just over 2 hours after swimming 400 metres, biking 20 kilometres, and running 5 kilometres. Actually, I pretty much walked the 5 k by the time I got to that part of the race. I was dog tired.
As I was waiting in a line for the bathrooms before the event began, I heard some women behind me talking about how they hadn't worked much on their transitions, and a thought suddenly struck me. With all the exercise I had been doing, and all the training, I hadn't really ever practiced transitioning between events. Okay, it had occurred to me, but I had never really done it. Not only that, but as I thought about it, I had hardly trained at all for the swim, and I hadn't biked 20 kms at all. I had run 5kms though, that I knew. "Well," I thought to myself, "here goes nothing!" AND I DID IT!!!
Proof here. (check out #188)
What an accomplishment!! HAHA!!
But since then I admit I've fallen off the exercise bandwagon. Well, heck, I did get pregnant and that put a bit of a damper on things! But just recently Ryan and I decided that we'd start doing the Vancouver Sun Run training program that trains you to run 10kms. It's been a couple weeks now and it's great! I recommend it to anyone who wants to start running and isn't a runner. It takes you right from the start and leads you through walking and running.
Anyway, this isn't a commercial for it...
Well, like I said at the starting gate to the triathlon, HERE GOES NOTHING!! Wish me luck! So far it's going well! Let's hear a big RAH RAH RAH!!!!

Good luck Laura! This year's Sun Run was motivation, as you know from my blog. I was so thrilled when I completed it and my running has just gotten better and better. I never thought I was a runner either, but I haven't had a chance to go for about five days now and I'm MISSING it! My next goal is to do a half marathon. That's pretty scary for me, but we'll see! Good luck! You can definitely do it!
Hey, I've been wanting to start running too! The difference is that you actually HAVE started. In the spring it was too wet, then it got too hot. Sometimes I actually got my runners on and then got distracted before I reached the door. Maybe now I'll start, then I can see what the fun is all about.
Hey...Good for you, Laura! Fun and exciting times! I bookmarked the page so if ever I want to run more 10k I'll know how to do it. 6k is fine with me for now.
I sometimes get such an adrenaline rush that I feel like I am floating and completely drugged. I LOVE IT!!!! I am addicted!
